Dear ECS Stakeholders,

In last month’s update, I announced that bidding had concluded with projected construction expenses higher than anticipated. While It is not atypical of projects this size to require some level of “value engineering” post-bid, this process will delay the project’s timeline.

ECS continues to work with its architect to understand the design implications and their overall impact on the construction schedule. However, ECS remains rooted in its values and will not eliminate design elements that would compromise its commitment to creating a space that is student focused and healthy for our community.

Despite this bump in the construction timeline, I am delighted to continue monthly high school updates. With that in mind, I’m thrilled that the new building will connect beautifully to UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, Clean Water and Sanitation.

As mentioned in an earlier update, the new ECHS building will have a WELL Compliance certification. To review, WELL Performance Rating uses building data and building occupant experience to inform the organization's operations and culture. This includes data regarding potable water quality, and ECHS will maintain water testing methods to earn WELL Compliance Certifications in the following areas:

  • W01 Fundamental Water Quality

  • W02 Water Contaminants

  • W03 Legionella Control (stagnant water management)

  • W04 Enhanced Water Quality

  • W05 Water Quality Consistency

  • W08 Handwashing

Similar to ECS’s other buildings, the high school will include several water fountains and bottle-filling stations. These water dispensers will minimize waste caused by disposal bottles, and they also include a filtration system designed to eliminate any bacteria adulterating the water system.

Finally, I am dedicated to keeping all ECS stakeholders updated regarding the project’s timeline.  Thank you for your continued support and connection to the ECHS construction project. Construction may be delayed, but ECS looks forward to seeing this project to its completion and remains unwavering to ensure its full potential.

Be Well,

Jon McCann
