Tragedy in Texas
Dear ECS Community,
We are heartbroken. We are saddened. And we are sickened, SICKENED to hear about the 21 beautiful souls, the 19 elementary school students and 2 adults who were needlessly lost to yet another intolerable act of gun violence. As we all begin the process of healing, know that ECS is here for each of you and handles tragic events like these in a developmentally appropriate manner. We understand that it is difficult to explain the news to children when we ourselves are struggling to comprehend senseless acts of violence. Please take a moment to review the resources below and know that we have our student services team available for anyone who needs additional support.
While our collective thoughts go out to the Uvalde, TX community, as well as all who have experienced the unimaginable tragedy of gun violence, THIS IS NOT ENOUGH! ECS is an institution that is committed to growing effective citizens, and it is our solemn and singular duty to push for needed and necessary change to protect each other and our communities. These weapons of destruction MUST be controlled and regulated to prevent these senseless acts of mass killing. Our future sustainability as global citizens depends on it. We hope, we wish, and we petition for change.
Today and always, we think of our own students, staff, children, and families, and for them, we mustn't fall silent and numb. While ECS has extensive safety plans, practice drills, and partnerships with the local police, community, and internal monitors that are designed to keep violence out of our schools, the need for such operations is disheartening. Together, we can stand up to gun violence and develop meaningful tactics to ensure the safety and security of schools. Join us in pledging to take action against gun violence in schools.
Finally, our most valuable partner is you, our parents, guardians, and families. We depend on our community’s vigilance and reporting of questions or concerns to building principals, the local police, and safe to say something. Together, we remain committed to finishing our school year safely.
In solidarity and with deep and utter sadness,
ECS Leadership Team
