Primary School Feb. Newsletter (21–22)
Dear Primary School Families,
School should be a playful and safe place for our children. School should feel consistent and comfortable. We work every day to love, support, and educate our little ones at ECS. Education systems nationwide are still experiencing the ups and downs of the Covid-19 pandemic, coupled with frigid temperatures and winter weather…things are not as consistent as we would ALL like them to be. Our fabulous school counselor, Beth Flynn, found this article about coping with change in school. It is a great read and essential, not just now as we navigate another winter in a pandemic, but always. Change is inevitable, and both good and bad change is stressful. As a mom of two little ones, I feel like I have been navigating school and daycare change with my daughters for far too long. After being home quarantined as a family, there was so much we needed to talk through when it was time to go back to school. My youngest had the hardest time getting to sleep and staying asleep while my older daughter was excited, nervous, and acting wild. We as parents and educators help support our little ones dealing with all the changes with love and comfort. It is not always easy, but we have each other to lean on. Reach out if you need us!
Take care, get outside, and play,
Ashley Bergman
What's new at the Primary School?
100th day
ECS Primary is celebrating the 100th day of school on Feb. 7. We will “wear 100” and strive to have 100 acts of kindness! We will build a chain of kindness with each act of kindness that is reported! If we make it to 100, we will have a dress-down week the week of Feb. 14.
After School Programs
Check out the ½ Day Adventures hosted by Assemble specifically for Primary School students to participate in on half days. Sign your student up!
Community Ski
The first Community Ski trip on Jan. 28 was rescheduled due to the school cancellation. Community Ski trips at Hidden Valley will occur on Feb. 11 and Feb. 25 (make-up day for Jan. 28).
ECS Candid Photos Requested
The K-5 Yearbook Committee would love to see all the K-5 ECSers out in the community or at home. We will be filling some of the pages of the K-5 Yearbook with your lovely smiling faces. Please send photos of your kiddos to yearbook@ecspco.org. For classification and sorting purposes, please put name(s) and home base(s) in the email. Deadline is April 1, 2022.
K-5 Yearbook Cover Contest
K-5 Students: Submit your original design for the K-5 yearbook cover contest! The winning designs will be on the front and back covers of the 2021-2022 yearbook!
1. Keep text and images within a 1/2″ border of the page so nothing is cut off.
2. You can use markers, paints, crayons, or colored pencils.
3. Use white 8.5 x 11″ computer paper only.
4. Be neat, and more importantly, BE CREATIVE!
5. Make sure you include the school name (ECS or Environmental Charter School), 2021-2022, and K-5 Yearbook in your cover design.
6. Keep your original design. Submit a photograph (crop or close up for the image only), or scan of your design to yearbook@ecspco.org by March 1, 2022. This is a great activity to work on during all the days off this winter! We will collect the original design after the contest winner is chosen.
