Dear ECS Families and Staff,

During last night’s ECS Board of Trustees meeting, the board and I had the opportunity to review the results from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s School Climate Survey that I communicated on Oct. 10.

With that said, below is a synopsis of the data collected:

  • 165 individuals responded to the parent survey.

  • 30 individuals participated in the open ended response.

  • ECS scored a total average climate score of 3.28 out of 4.

    • “My child’s school is a supportive and inviting place for students” was the highest ranked at 3.46 out of 4.

    • “At this school there are good supports for all children, including children with learning difficulties” and “adults at the school have high expectations for all children” were the lowest ranked at 3.10 out of 4.

  • ECS also sent a Pennsylvania Department of Education’s School Climate Survey specifically to staff which yielded a participation of 76 staff members.

While the Board was pleased to see positive results from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s School Climate Survey, we recognize the need for continued growth and improvement to maintain a positive school-wide culture as well as evolve and prepare for the future. The ECS Board of Trustees will compare our parent and staff feedback to the results provided by the district’s regularly scheduled risk and vulnerability assessments conducted by the PA State Police Department and Homeland Security, the Act 55 SAP Behavioral Health and School Climate Assessment, and the South Western PA Regional Threat Assessment.

With the analysis of this information, the Board will prioritize the most pressing projects to determine safety funding as well as areas in which we can seek additional, outside funding through safety grants. The board looks forward to providing more opportunities for community involvement in the coming months as conversations revolving around safety are always continuous. Please keep an eye out for additional communications regarding school safety and climate.

Please know that we are grateful for your participation and partnership in school climate and safety. Your voice is an important factor as the ECS Board of Trustees works to decide where ECS spends its safety dollars and how the district invests in infrastructure, training, and prevention. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to growing citizens.

On behalf of the Board,

Adam Tobias, MD

President, ECS Board of Trustees
