March 2023 ECHS Construction Update
Dear ECS Stakeholders,
On March 1, the bidding phase for the ECHS construction project closed, and ECS was thrilled to have received bids from several construction companies throughout the area. While the costs associated with the submitted bids are higher than anticipated, ECS leadership and the Board of Trustees continue to review the bids in great detail to determine the district’s next steps toward construction.
In the meantime, this month’s update revolves around the building's connection to UN Sustainable Development Goal 5, Gender Equality. From the project’s inception, ECS was dedicated to driving gender equality into the building’s development process, and this concept remains fundamental for the project’s entirety. With that said, ECS proudly partnered with AUROs Group, a woman-owned organization, to ensure the new building will meet ECS’s desired performance goals. ECS is also pleased to move into its construction phase with a woman-led Board of Trustees.
Finally, the high school itself hosts a variety of clubs that promote Goal 5 such as GSSU and Ruling Our Experiences (ROX). These student and teacher-led organizations will continue to live within the new building, and they also will have the opportunity to weigh in on post-construction decisions. Alongside other clubs like student government and BSU, student groups will contribute ideas for furniture, flex spaces, and other elements that align with the goals and missions of their clubs.
Be Well,
Jon McCann
