January 2023 ECHS Construction Update
Dear ECS Stakeholders,
First and foremost, I am thrilled to invite you to the ECHS Construction Staff and Family Reception on Thursday, Jan. 26 in the Middle School Cafe starting at 6:30 p.m. This event will provide our ECS community the opportunity to hear from Beth Eckenrode of AUROS Group, the building’s project manager.
At the beginning of the event, enjoy light refreshments and live music performed by our fabulous Ms. Huneycutt, 3–8 Instrumental Music Teacher. We will then settle in to hear from Beth and discover how ECS will utilize public dollars to create a truly sustainable, net-zero, building that aligns with the City of Pittsburgh’s 2030 Climate Action Plan and incorporates Passive House Design, RESET Air, and WELL Performance Rating.
It is my sincere hope to see you at the event. Register here.
Today’s update focuses on the building’s connection to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. While several elements of the space relate to this goal, I would like to emphasize one particular sustainability program goal. The building will have a WELL Performance Rating certification.
WELL Performance Rating uses building data and building occupant experience to inform the organization's operations and culture. In other words, it sets parameters that pay close attention to the health and well-being of the building’s inhabitants. This certification will help ECS implement best practices for continuous monitoring and performance across key indoor environment quality (IEQ) metrics like air and water quality, thermal comfort, acoustics, and lighting, all of which contribute to a premium occupant experience.
As an early adopter, ECS looks forward to developing the first building in the Pittsburgh region as well as the first high school in the country that uses the WELL Performance Rating.
Be Well,
Jon McCann
