Intermediate School Sept. Newsletter (21–22)

Dear ECS Intermediate Families,

The 2021–2022 school year is off to an excellent start, and we are looking forward to sustaining all of the excitement, enthusiasm, and wonder we’ve experienced these past few weeks throughout the entire year. This year, students participated in a house sorting ceremony on Aug. 20 where they were placed in one of the houses listed below and received a colorful t-shirt that corresponds with their house. The four houses are as follows:

The students will earn points for their house by demonstrating any of the traits highlighted above. The purpose of the House System is to build connections and form a sense of family togetherness amongst everyone in the building and district personnel while celebrating ECS pride.

As students settle into their houses, I look forward to seeing them work together to earn points, have fun, and develop bonds with their peers.

What’s new at the Intermediate School?

Flex Wednesday
Our next Flex Wednesday is on September 29th. The children will be having bag lunches on that day. Please make sure that the children are dressed for the weather.

Upcoming PSSAs
As previously communicated, our current 4th and 5th-grade students will be taking the PSSA. The PSSA will assess their knowledge of Math, ELA, and Science (applies only to the current 5th-grade students) content of the previous grade level. For example, the 4th-grade students will be tested on 3rd-grade academic material. The PSSA schedule is as follows:

ELA PSSA - 9/8/21 - 9/10/21
Math PSSA - 9/13/21 - 9/14/21
Science PSSA - 9/20/21 - 9/21/21 (for current 5th-grade students only)

Student Services
Go Guardian: Beacon–Beacon is a suicide and self-harm prevention tool that our student services team will use to monitor and proactively identify at-risk students. If a student searches a concerning topic on a school computer, the parent/guardian will be directly notified. Please reach out to our school social worker, Jessica Segal x9431, or school counselor, Laura (Davidson) Brienza x9109, with any questions.
