Important Behavior Reminder
Dear ECS Parents and Guardians,
Today, I would like to ask a favor of you. Please take a moment to review the following letter with your student and have a heartfelt discussion with them about what it means to be a global citizen.
As superintendent, I want to remind you how very loved you all are by your teachers and other school-based faculty and staff. Your administrators love you, and every single adult you see across all of our campuses loves you. Never forget that.
You’ve likely heard of some disturbing new trends buzzing around TikTok and other social media platforms this year that include a different and increasingly alarming trend for each month of the 2021–2022 school year. But I know this isn’t you. Whether you’re new to ECS this year or have been with us for multiple years, I know that you know that taking part in these trends isn't right and there are consequences to your actions. At the core of our shared ECS guiding principles is Character, and in that, we emphasize evaluating the impact individual choices have on the collective community.
I understand the pressures of social media and that many of you may want to participate in current and/or future challenges, but the folks that you see each and every day are at ECS consistently and passionately with one goal in mind: your ultimate and unwavering success. As followers of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, partaking in harmful or disruptive social media challenges disconnects us from goal 16 to instill peace, justice, and strong institutions.
I, along with all other ECS adults, ask that you do not cave to these pressures of building a social media presence through negative and damaging tactics. Instead, know that you are plenty as you are, and your cheerleaders, fans, and followers are here at ECS.
Trust them, believe in them, respect them, and love them just as they show and demonstrate these characteristics for you. Over the next few days, we will continue this conversation as part of Homebase discussions. In the meantime, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Respectfully,
Amanda Cribbs, EdD
Superintendent
