ECS May 2022 News
Dear ECS Families,
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month AND Jewish American Heritage Month. While students in grades K–5 participate in read and sing-alongs to learn words like Shalom, students in grades 6–10 learn how to create tasty treats from both the AAPI and Jewish cultures. These cultural celebrations are imperative to our mission to grow an active, engaged, and thoughtful citizenry. Throughout the next few weeks, ask your students about what they have learned and try some traditional recipes from these cultures.
While students still have many outdoor experiences to discover and new cultural celebrations to learn about, ECS is reflecting on the past year and preparing for the 22–23 school year by investing in experience opportunities to enhance students’ academic encounters and well-being as we imagine a post-pandemic society. In the ECS K–5 program, additional staff will join the specialist team to allow for dedicated music and physical education instructors at both the Primary and Intermediate buildings. At the Middle School, we are breaking ground on the upper green space which will allow space for supplemental outdoor education and activities. Simultaneously, we are preparing to onboard a new 11th-grade staff at our High School as well as support additional student services needs district-wide.
ECS is pleased to announce these changes as several were student-led initiatives and will not only establish new areas for development but serve as a stepping stone into post-pandemic remediation.
Be Well,
Jon McCann
