#ECSCares Day 2025
ECS is gearing up for its district-wide volunteering day, #ECSCares Day, on the last day of school on Thursday, June 12 from 9–11 a.m. Please review the important details below to ensure your student receives credit.
Thursday, June 12, is an asynchronous learning day, and students' participation in #ECSCares Day will count toward their attendance for school.
Parents/guardians must accompany their student at #ECSCares Day as well as provide transportation.
ECS recognizes that not all students can participate at volunteer sites. Any students who are unable to volunteer on-site must volunteer at home or in their community prior to the last day of school. Please see the ideas at the end of this communication for ways to get involved!
To ensure your child is marked present regardless of whether they are at a volunteer site or completing a service project on their own, please take a photo of them volunteering and post it on Facebook or Instagram using #ECSCaresDay2025, or send your photo to media@ecspgh.org.

Scholarships
Don't miss out on these great scholarship opportunities! These scholarships have June deadlines, so apply ASAP. View the scholarships here.
Scholarship application tips:
Start Early: If they haven’t already, students should begin their scholarship search now. There are more scholarships coming online over the coming weeks they won’t want to miss out on.
Application Strategy: It can be tempting to just apply to those big dollar, no essay scholarships, but students stand a much better chance of winning if they apply for local, more specific matches that require a bit more time and effort.
Personalize Applications: A strong personal statement tailored to the specific scholarship can set students apart. Students should lean into the essay! This is something they will need for their college application, too.
FAFSA Is Open: Important FAFSA Information
FAFSA Simplification: This year’s FAFSA has undergone significant changes to simplify the application process. It’s open now, so be sure to encourage students and families to file as soon as possible to maximize their aid eligibility.
Key Deadlines: Remind families to check federal, state, and institutional deadlines to avoid missing critical opportunities.
Student Aid Report (SAR): After submission, students should review their SAR carefully to ensure all information is correct and to understand their Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
Calculate Student Aid: Parents can use the Federal Student Aid Estimator to determine how much federal aid they will qualify for.
Applications Open for 2025 Learn & Earn Summer Youth Employment Program
County Executive Sara Innamorato, Pittsburgh Deputy Mayor Jake Pawlak, Partner4Work CEO Rob Cherry, and participants launched the enhanced 2025 Learn & Earn Summer Youth Employment Program, announcing that applications are now open through June 6. Learn more and apply here.
Summer High School U Program
The Summer High School University (HSU) Program is a FREE eight week program for rising 10th–12th grade low-income students (14–18 years of age) living in the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding suburbs in Allegheny County. Students participants enroll in a college course, engage in tutoring/study skills, and participate in paid summer work experiences. Learn more and apply here.
